Every weekend the same question comes up: Where to get the best brunch and breakfast in Berlin? Our recommendations for Kreuzberg, Mitte, Schöneberg, Neukölln and Prenzlauer Berg have updated since our last breakfast guide for Berlin (read here). Some of the locations are brand new, and some are just new to us. Find here our latest favorites when it comes to our most important meal of the weekend.
Albatross Bakery in Kreuzberg
This bakery doesn’t only serve one of the greatest cappuccinos, they are also mastering a collection of delicious bread. The interior of Albatross is minimalistic and their tables are narrowly arranged, which gives you a cozy atmosphere. But I like it the most when you get one of their fluffy croissants or sandwiches and sit outside in front of their store to enjoy the sun.
Albatross Bakery, Graefestraße 66/67, 10967 Berlin
YaMe NumNums in Neukölln
Definitely a breakfast spot, like you’ve never seen before. Starting from their distinct interior, which you can see on the opening picture of the article. French Toast is served with Kimchi and bacon, authentic Japanese pancakes Okonimiyaki or a fluffy Vietnamese crepes Banh Xeo: The choice between their Asian fusion brunch creations isn’t easy at the newly opened YaMe NumNums in Neukölln. Definitely also outstanding are their delicious, sweet coconut milk pancakes. Try it!
YaMe NumNums, Flughafenstraße 46, 12053 Berlin
ABC – Allans Breakfast Club in Prenzlauer Berg
This one isn’t a new spot on the list, but it took a while for us to make it to Prenzlauer Berg for breakfast. The first Australian café in this district is run by Allan, who lived half of his life in Sydney and speaks Aussie English with a French lilt. This mixture of origins can be experienced in his famous dishes, too. Poached eggs with spicy shakshouka, warm banana bread and his famous Egg Benedict served with black bread.

Rocket + Basil in Schöneberg
Rocket + Basil used to be a pop-up brunch event by Sophie and Xenia von Oswald. They moved from location to location, now the sisters have opened their first stationary shop at Schöneberg. You don’t find the typical avocado toast or egg Benedict on the menu, rather you enjoy their Persian inspired creations of scrambled eggs or their brioche toast with eggs and Halloumi.
Rocket + Basil, Lützowstraße 22, Berlin
21 Gramm in Neukölln
Located in an old chapel next to the graveyard at Hermannstraße, this café is unexpectedly homely. Besides their well-done interior inside the ancient building, you’ll also find a beautiful courtyard with a big wooden bench and the many cushions. Chains of lights, wild wine next to the old brick walls make a pleasant place to sit outside while having brunch.
And their menu? Like we know it from their first outpost at Berlin Mitte: apple and maple syrup on mascarpone, salmon, egg or avocado sourdough bread, the Lebanese egg dish Labneh and above all their breakfast platters.
21 Gramm, Hermannstraße 179, 12049 Berlin
Closed in 2020: Not new, but still the best in Mitte – Commonground
Update: This restaurant is closed. Those breakfast tacos! On the weekends you always have to wait for at least thirty to forty minutes to get a place, but even after two years since their opening, we haven’t found a better brunch restaurant in Mitte. And since their most famous dish of Commonground – their tacos with egg and avocado – also got a vegetarian update by serving mushrooms instead of bacon, we love them even more.
Commonground, Rosenthaler Straße 1, 10119 Berlin
