COFFEE SHOP MEETS DESIGN HOTEL: “THE PILGRM” IN LONDON

Walking down the street in London, the newly opened “The Pilgrm” in Paddington’s Norfolk Square is not what it seems at first glance. A new boutique hotel, with great design and a full of surprises.

THE CAFÉ

With the first view from the street, it looks like there is just another coffee shop. Let’s say, a quite nice coffee shop, with a massive mahogany staircase that comes down and brick exposed walls and greenery trailing down some shelfs. But the Pilgrm, yes this is not a typo – the second “i” is deliberately missing – is in fact a hotel. There’s no classic reception or check in desk, prior to your arrival you’re simply asked to fill in your details online.

THE LOUNGE

As we enter the first floor we arrive in the lounge. Food and drinks are served here all day, with a menu that sums up the best from all over the world: Kimchi rice, poached eggs or the ultimate mushrooms and cheese toastie. Vintage furniture upholstered in colorful patterns and fabrics, a perfect place to hang out and indulge in the magazine collection.

THE HOTEL

There are four different categories and 73 rooms, each with an understated luxury and that monochrome color scheme we love. The building’s original Victorian architectural features have lovingly been restored into their original glory. Remember the staircase? It took 300 hours to restore it’s shape! With fair prices (bunk rooms start at £99) this definitely is a modern hotel experience with a vintage charm for everyone.
