NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT: BREDDOS TACOS IN LONDON

I’m lucky enough to say that I “have to” travel to London for work at least twice a year. Now, in about two weeks, I’ll be back. Just in time for beautiful christmas decorations and unrestrained gluttony or as some say: Christmas dinners.

Breddos Tacos have been on my watchlist for quite some time now. First for publishing a delicious cook book in 2016. And lastly because they opened up a second location in Soho, Kingly Street.

THE LOCATION

What started out as a kind-of-shabby taco shack in a car park in Hackney back in 2011, is now the latest hype in London. Since then, the team at Breddos Tacos has gone on to do residencies and pop-ups, Street Feast, a cook book, as well as a cook-off at LA’s Tacolandia festival in 2016, before finding a permanent home for themselves in Clerkenwell and Soho. Oh, plus the Soho location features an amazing Margarita Bar downstairs! Also, just look at the cool interior:

THE FOOD

The dishes here are influenced by the hundreds of roadside taquerias and restaurants which the owners, the kings of street-food Nud Dudhia and Chris Whitney, have encountered on their various travels throughout America and Mexico. Whilst utilising the best of British ingredients from passionate producers.

Each order comes with two tacos, so go crazy and share! Favorites on the taco menu include: Conchinita Pibil (pork, habanero vinaigrette, pickled onion), Baja Fish (cabbage, lime mayo, pico de gallo) and Organic Egg (macadamia nut mole, hola santa, quest fresco). All tacos come on authentic 12cm corn tortillas. There are tostadas too, make sure to try the Sashimi Grade Tuna (fujiko, tomatillo and yellow bean) as well as the Chanterelle Mushroom (laab spices, black mole vinaigrette and black garlic). And don’t under no circumstance of forgetting to order the Queso Fundido, as a snack to take you through the menu.

THE DRINKS

Next to basic cocktails, like margaritas and bloody marys you’ll also find Breddos Fizz (Tequila, Mezcal, Peach, Citrus, Egg White and soda) or Paloma (Tequila, fresh grapefruit juice and squirt). There is a notably extensive selection of artisanal Mezcal, imported directly by Chris and Nud from Mexico so you’ll not find these mescals anywhere else in the UK.

THE BOOK

The duo has written down 75 of their most innovative and delicious recipes for various dishes like tacos, tostadas and whatever sauces you might dream of to go with it. Even though neither of the two is from Mexico, you can taste their enthusiasm for the colorful and flavorful cuisine. Even from just looking at the pictures.
