When it comes to Peruvian or Mexican food, there are some pretty good restaurants in Hamburg already. So if ever I was in the mood for delicious Ceviche, Tacos or Margaritas the first places that came into my mind were Leche De Tigre in Altona and Salt & Silver in St. Pauli or Cantina Popular in Schanzenviertel, which unfortunately is closed at the moment. But since February this year, there’s a new kid in town and we’ve already tried and tested it more than twice! Yaku Restaurante serves some pretty serious drinks and definitely raises the bar for restaurants in the Grindelviertel:
THE FOOD
Different influences from Perú and México promise the best of both. The menu slightly changes from time to time so here are our favorite dishes, the ones that you should definitely try. Causa Akihiro: fresh tuna with cold potato puree, quails egg, cream of avocado, wakame and a special nikkei sauce. Surprisingly delicious and definitely a must-try! Next, on the menu, we suggest the Yaku Ceviche: fresh sea bass with onions, lime and sweet potato puree with roasted corn. Don’t forget a spoon for the sauce. Yum!

THE DRINKS
Careful now, if you come to Yaku during the week, you might wanna come by taxi and watch what you order for drinks. One of the delicious Margaritas and your night might end up elsewhere than at home safe and sound. That said, we’ve had the best evenings at Yaku and are happy to welcome this restaurant to our hood. And we’re lucky to have them in walking distance from home.
