“The Tamburlaine” hotel isn’t just a cute design spot, it’s also a meeting point for locals and the ultimate recommendation for an amazing afternoon tea in Cambridge. Where the name of this new luxury design hotel comes from? Of course, nothing special in Cambridge happens without a reference to the famous university. So, literary pros may recognise the hotel’s name as that of a 16th-century-play about a Persian emperor by Christopher Marlowe, one of the university’s most celebrated alumni.

From the outside, the hotel isn’t revealing much. The 155-room hotel spearheads an extensive regeneration project that promises to see the area surrounding Cambridge Station emerge as a vibrant business and residential district. The opening of the Tamburlaine was the most exciting event in Cambridge, because it marks the development of a new district in the city.
THE DESIGN
But by stepping inside the 4-star-hotel you’re greeted by a sleek, high-ceiling lobby with an amazing staircase, leading you upstairs to the beautiful library and the scholar rooms. The rooms come in three academia-inspired categories: Fresher, Scholar and Dean.
Of course, you can’t have a proper design in this city without using different shades of the famous Cambridge Blue. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer a nice view over the city or the countryside. The interior is accented by dark-wooden-panelling, gleaming brass and marble bathrooms.
THE TEA ROOM
More into patisserie stuff and tea than staying at the hotel for the night? You’re welcome: It’s the plant-filled Garden Room which is every little girls dream. Much light, its rose-shaded furnishings, tiled floors and the idea of sipping champagne and having luxurious afternoon teas with friends there.

THE FOOD
Downstairs, The Brasserie will be serving a well thought-out menu of locally sourced ingredients. The chef is executive chef David Ellams, who was a passion for treating ingredients with the utmost respect. At The Tamburlaine you’ll also find the deli “Steam” and a colonial-style tea room where you can choose from amazing food variations. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

THE COCKTAIL BAR
The rather beautiful horseshoe shaped cocktail bar will be whipping up all manner of exciting tipples, whilst the hotel’s deli, Steam, offers a vibrant and modern space specialising in coffees, lunches and light snacks.

THE LIBRARY

Don’t forget to visit the elegant library upstairs – with its cosy atmosphere, its amazing bookshelves, panelled walls and an open fire. The Library provides the intimate atmosphere of a private club. And you won’t starve while getting lost in one of the books there: A menu of light snacks, teas, coffees and wines is served here.
