SLEEPING IN A BIRD’S NEST IN THE JUNGLE OF THAILAND

I have never seen a hotel like this before. Over the last years this part of Thailand has gotten more and more touristic and has lost its charm a bit. Therefore, I am very happy to have found this special place in Phuket: Keemala Resort.

It is an ultimate getaway for people who want to relax, unwind and just feel nature. The luxury hotel promotes invigorated and healthy mindset and brings their guest closer to nature with their holistic living concept.

THE CONCEPT

Kemala is located in the mountains of Phuket in the middle of the jungle close to Patong Beach and Surin Beach. On a hill side, you find the hotel. The hotel tells a story, with their four different room categories – dedicated to four fictitious clans. The architecture and design shows the skills and way of life of each clan, of course, in a very luxurious way. Instead of fighting nature, the hotel embraces it in their design with mature trees, waterfalls and earth.

BIRD’S NEST POOL VILLA

So lets start with the four different kind of rooms. My personal favorite one is the Bird’s Nest Pool Villa. This category was designed after the “Rung-Nok” clan, which is said  to live a bit more extravagant. One feels like a bird in this villa, which is build on wooden posts on the side of the mountain. These rooms have a 30 square meter pool with a beautiful view to the ocean.

TREE POOL HOUSES

I love the design of the Tree Pool Houses which represent the “We-Ha” tribe, which worshiped the universe and wanted to be as close as possible to the sky. The tree houses are designed to look like they are hanging from the trees. Their interior is also hanging from the ceiling. It offers two floors and of course a private pool.

TENT POOL VILLAS

The third category Tent Pool Villas are inspired by the “Khon-Jorn-Clan”, which is said to be a very adventures clan, trading goods and therefore traveling a lot. So, of course, the rooms have to be tents. One feels a bit nomadic – it could be somewhere in Africa or Arabia.

CLAY POOL COTTAGE

The last category the Clay Pool Cottages which reflects the “Pa-Ta-Pea Clan”. This tribe was connected with the earth and nature so the architects decided to include the earth in the walls, furniture, and roofs. This tribe was leader in agriculture at former times. Of this room category there 16 cottages with monsoon showers in-and outside and of course a beautiful pool.

MALA SPA

Since the whole concept of the hotel is to find pureness and relaxation the spa is very important. However, they don’t only offer typical massages but also sacred healing journeys. With traditional healing methods like raindrop healing therapy, interactive Thai bodywork, or VOYA seaweed hot stone massage they show a quite new approach to wellness.

Keemala provides also many outdoor spaces for guests to enjoy like, yoga, meditation, jogging tracks, walking ways, and many more. It is s great place to relax and forget about the outside world.
