THE BETTER PLACES

ONE OF OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANTS IN BERLIN: ‘BIG SUR’ IN KREUZBERG

I tried a burger at the food truck ‘Gorilla Barbecue’ for the first time at the fair ‘Premium’ this summer in Berlin. After the burger there I wished to have the possibility to eat their food more often – without needing to chase down this food truck.

Thanks, my prayers were answered: The owners just opened their own restaurant called ‘Big Sur’ in Kreuzberg. Named after the amazing landscape in California, they aren’t just offering great burgers. In the menu you also find healthy and refined dishes with grilled buttermilk chicken, poached eggs and sauteed kale. But their menu isn’t a typical mixture of californian hipster ingredients – as you would guess by the name. They optimize their dishes with refined specials like truffle mayo, italian inspired sauces with anchovies or almonds and balsamico onions. Of course they also offer vegetarian options with falafel and grilled vegetables.

‘The Patsy Cline’ Burger with irish beef, irish cheddar, bread’n butter pickles, truffle mayo, bacon and balsamico onions.

Besides tasty fries you can also order various side dishes like grilled broccoli, grilled romaine salad with chilli and coriander (highly recommended!) or potatoes.

Of course, no restaurant without this super food: Kale side dish.

And in the end: Get some dessert. The peanut chocolate cake with ice cream was to die for.

The location in Kreuzberg used to be an Israeli restaurant before ‘Big Sur’ opened.
