In the middle of New York Citys Soho district, you find 11 Howard hotel, which is part of design hotels for a good reason. It is a boutique hotel and inspiring space, which is a collaboration between Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners and Space Copenhagen (best known for its work at Noma). Quite a task, because the design team gutted the structure which was originally built in 1961 and reinvented the space where you can find the effortlessly cool boutique hotel plus the famous French cuisine restaurant “Le CouCou” and the bar “The Blond” now. So indeed, the 11 Howard (also a great hospitality concept we reviewed in this article) is a hot spot at every time of the day.
And as we visited 11 Howard, we realized, that there are some inspiring details about the hotel, which we can’t resist to copy for our own homes and projects. To take a piece of the distinct look with us back to Germany.
Scandinavian color scheme
Experience of the best of Scandinavian interior design projects – outside of Scandinavia – with a stay at 11 Howard that celebrates of Danish minimalism design. Because Scandinavians aren’t just known for perfecting the whitewashed look, you might recognize that they use a similar palette of six colors: dusty pink, amber, deep blue, dark grey, moss and a pale blue. By layering a few accessories in these colors on a cream or grey base, Scandinavians make their homes instantly homely. As you can see in every of the 221 rooms of 11 Howard, it provides you indeed with that cozy atmosphere you are seeking for in the vivid city of New York, doesn’t it? We are loving it.
Velvet furniture
As the trend research company WGSN reported, velvet is among the top 3 interior trends for the upcoming season. If you want to see a hotel that sported it the perfect way already, go to 11 Howard. They are combining chairs with warm amber hues, ottomans with pale blue in a combination next to concrete interior and wooden details.
Leather details
A towering staircase leads from the lobby to the library – a sun-drenched space lined with design books. But wait a minute. There is more about this staircase than just concrete and steel. Buttery leather peppered the holding while muted, dusty hues added depth while walking up to the first floor. A very small, but impressive detail.
Brass bathroom taps
Chrome has had it good for far too long. As we spotted in the bathrooms of 11 Howard, Brass is the new colour for your taps in the bathroom. Sleek designs and minimal detailing ensure the look is effortlessly cool. And the perfect complement to a monochrome scheme, stone and concrete.
Vintage accessoires
It’s not just about this vintage inspired telephone. There are plenty of timeless accessories at 11 Howard, from which you can’t tell at a first glimpse from which period of design they are originally from. Especially the lighting design – which was done by Isometrix – completes the Danish minimalist but urban look.
